Tel Aviv Nigh Life

Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv offers plenty to do and experience after sunset regardless of the day of the week and the season of the year. In Tel Aviv, there is little sign of the Sabbath which has the status of a holiday in Israel and is typically reserved for quiet family evenings. Tel Avivians, especially the young people, however, like to spend the night out and have a great time.

Tel Aviv’s night life offers a diverse entertainment and activity throughout the week and throughout the year. The most popular night-time activities among the Tel Avivians include strolling around and people-watching while sitting in one of many bars and pubs, especially at the streets that run along the beach. The places there are full most nights of the week but most Tel Avivians “come out” on Saturday nights. Tel Aviv’s night life, however, offers much more than just hanging around in bars and pubs. Here are a few suggestions:

Performing Arts. Although most foreigners associate culture with Jerusalem, the true centre of culture in Israel is Tel Aviv with its world-class performing arts centres. Visitors of the city who enjoy performing arts will be impressed by Tel Aviv’s theatres, opera, ballet and other cultural events that take place on a virtually daily basis. Some of the best places to enjoy performing arts include the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Centre which is home to the Israeli Opera and the Cameri Theatre, Habima Theatre, Frederic R. Mann Auditorium (The Culture Palace) which is home to the Israeli Philharmonic, Batsheva Dance Company, Israeli Ballet and Suzanne Dellal Centre for Dance and Theatre.

Art

Film. Film culture is very lively in the city of Tel Aviv and with so many cinema houses on virtually every step, there is something for just about everyone’s taste. Hollywood and English productions are very popular in Israel and fortunately for the English speaking visitors, films in Israel are not dubbed like in some European countries. However, if you would like to watch an Israeli or a foreign film, it is a good idea to check if it includes English subtitles. Also worth checking is the Tel Aviv Cinematheque, especially if you like art films or if you would like to see the Israeli production. It also regularly hosts various film festivals.

Clubbing. Tel Aviv is famous for its outstanding clubbing scene which also attracts many young people from the wider region. The Tel Aviv clubbing scene offers a diverse entertainment ranging from techno to indie and rock. The pubs, dance bars, night clubs and discos throughout the city offer something for everyone most days of the week, while the parties last well into the night. Some of the most popular venues are found at the Tel Aviv port, Allenby Street, streets east from Allenby Street and Florentin. The Boardwalk is a popular night-time destination for tourists but it is mostly avoided by the Tel Avivians.
